GP-Led Cosmetic Medicine, Melbourne

DrGlow is led by Dr Sally Staves (MBChB, RACGP), a qualified General Practitioner with a special interest in cosmetic medicine, and supported by Nurse Jess, a registered nurse with a focus on patient consultation and treatment planning. Together they bring a clinical and considered approach to cosmetic and skin treatments, with every patient assessed individually and every treatment decision made with you, not for you.

Cosmetic Medicine

DrGlow offers a range of non-surgical cosmetic medicine treatments, all discussed in detail at consultation. Where treatments involve prescription-only medicines, they are provided only following a face-to-face medical assessment, appropriate prescribing, and documented informed consent.

Cosmetic medicine consultations at DrGlow may cover concerns including:

  • Facial appearance and age-related changes

  • Volume and structural changes to the face

  • The appearance of fine lines

  • Jaw-related concerns

  • Excessive sweating

All cosmetic medicine treatments are prescription-only and provided solely following individual medical assessment. A consultation is required before any treatment is discussed or considered.

Advanced Skin Treatments

DrGlow offers a range of advanced skin treatments for those looking to address concerns related to skin quality, hydration, and texture. Treatments are selected and discussed at consultation based on individual assessment and suitability.

Advanced skin treatments include:

  • PRP is a treatment derived from your own blood. A small sample of blood is taken, processed to concentrate the platelets and growth factors, and the resulting plasma is administered via injection into the treatment area.

PRP may be discussed at consultation for concerns related to skin quality, texture, and tone on the face, neck, and chest, and for scalp and hair concerns. Suitability is individually assessed.

    What to expect

A blood draw is performed at your appointment. The sample is processed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma. The prepared plasma is then administered via a series of small injections into the treatment area. The appointment typically takes 45 to 60 minutes. Some discomfort during injection is normal. Topical anaesthetic is available and can be discussed at consultation.

    How many treatments

A series of treatments is typically recommended. The number and frequency are discussed and planned at your initial consultation based on your individual circumstances. Maintenance treatments are generally recommended following the initial course.

    Potential risks and side effects

As with all injectable treatments, PRP carries risks. These include but are not limited to:

    • Redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site

    • Tenderness and discomfort

    • Temporary skin irregularities

    • Infection (rare)

    • Allergic reaction (rare, however as PRP is derived from your own blood, this risk is minimal)

    • No guarantee of a specific outcome

All risks are discussed in full at your consultation before any decision is made to proceed.

    Aftercare

    • Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated area for 24 hours

    • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours

    • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours

    • Avoid sun exposure to the treated area and apply SPF if going outdoors

    • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications unless medically required, as these may affect the treatment

    • Avoid makeup on the treated area for 24 hours

    • Contact DrGlow if you experience any unexpected symptoms or have concerns following treatment

    Important

PRP is a medical procedure. Individual responses to treatment vary. Results are not guaranteed. This information is general in nature and does not substitute for a personalised medical consultation.

  • PRF is a second-generation platelet concentrate treatment, also derived from your own blood. The processing method differs from PRP and produces a fibrin matrix that releases growth factors over a longer period. Like PRP, PRF is administered via injection into the treatment area.

PRF may be discussed at consultation for concerns related to skin quality, texture, and tone, and for scalp and hair concerns. Suitability is individually assessed.

    What to expect

The appointment process is similar to PRP. A blood draw is performed, the sample is processed, and the prepared PRF is administered via injection into the treatment area. The appointment typically takes 45 to 60 minutes. Some discomfort during injection is normal. Topical anaesthetic is available and can be discussed at consultation.

    How many treatments

A series of treatments is typically recommended. The number and frequency are discussed and planned individually at consultation. Maintenance treatments are generally recommended following the initial course.

    Potential risks and side effects

As with all injectable treatments, PRF carries risks. These include but are not limited to:

    • Redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site

    • Tenderness and discomfort

    • Temporary skin irregularities

    • Infection (rare)

    • Allergic reaction (rare)

    • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours

    • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours

    • Avoid sun exposure to the treated area and apply SPF if going outdoors

    • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications unless medically required

    • Avoid makeup on the treated area for 24 hours

  • Rejuran is a range of injectable polynucleotide (PN) treatments. Polynucleotides are compounds derived from salmon DNA that are administered into the skin via injection. Three formulations are available at DrGlow, each discussed at consultation based on individual assessment and suitability.

    Rejuran Classic

For use on the face, neck, chest, and hands. May be discussed at consultation for concerns related to skin quality, hydration, texture, laxity, and the appearance of fine lines.

    Rejuran Eye

A formulation developed specifically for the under-eye area. May be discussed at consultation for concerns related to the appearance of the under-eye, including skin quality and hydration in that area.

    Rejuran Scar

A formulation developed to address the appearance of acne scarring. May be discussed at consultation for concerns related to skin texture and the appearance of scarring.

    What to expect

Rejuran is administered via a series of small injections into the treatment area. The appointment typically takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area being treated. Some discomfort during injection is normal. Topical anaesthetic is available and can be discussed at consultation. Mild swelling, redness, and small injection site marks are common immediately following treatment and generally resolve within a few days.

    How many treatments

A course of treatments is typically recommended, with the number and frequency discussed and planned at consultation based on individual circumstances. Maintenance treatments are generally recommended following the initial course.

    Potential risks and side effects

As with all injectable treatments, Rejuran carries risks. These include but are not limited to:

    • Redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site

    • Small papules at injection sites, which typically resolve within a few days

    • Tenderness and discomfort

    • Temporary skin irregularities

    • Infection (rare)

    • Allergic reaction (rare)

    • Avoid makeup on the treated area for 24 hours

    • Small papules at the injection sites are normal and will resolve
